'The 100' Season Three Episode Three 'Ye Who Enter Here' Group Review

Wednesday, February 10, 2016

Fable’s Library (Angelina and Brianna) joined up with The Bookmato Chronicles (me!) in writing a group review of The 100’s season three, episode three.
The 100 airs on Wednesday on The CW at 9/8C.

Note: Beware the sass. And randomness.
You’ve been warned.
Wren: Or else you might sue us for being too random. Wait...can that be done? Gonna Google that now.
Also, the pictures are not owned by me. The credit goes to their owners. You can click on the picture and be taken to its link.

Plot Summary:

A lot of political shenanigans goes down in this episode. There is a summit (that is supposedly a trap. Because all good things have to end some day.) And, therefore, the sky people (trying to spell their Grounder name is uber-hard, and nobody got time for dat) want to bomb the bazooka out of the Grounders. Because bombing is the natural reaction for anything. ANYTHING. (Anyone reminded of WWII here? Because Wren totally is.)
And an assassin appears! (All good shows have at least one assassin who threatens the lives of everyone.)
A proposition is made to the sky people. “Join us Grounders or die. Teehee.” (Wren is, of course, paraphrasing here.)
An explosion rips through the land, and people die. (Obviously.)

Characters:

We see more of Clarke and Lexa’s banter. (Though we don’t particularly think it’s great.) And Lexa is being an arse, per usual.
Twins: I feel like their relationship is too forced.
Wren: They really are pushed together. Puhlease. And Lexa...just...stop. I really hate your “I hate you but love you.” Because make up your mind. -rolls eyes- She takes “You’re hot then you’re cold” to another level.

And we are finally introduced to Bellamy’s mysterious lover. And she’s named Gena. And apparently good with technology? (Though, we doubt that.)
We still ship Bellarke, though.
Twins: BELLAMY is miinneeee.
Wren: Uh...you can have him. I’m sticking with Victor Vale and Yato and Romanno. Have fun with abs boy.

The twins wonder what happened to Raven’s lover (Wick). Because he was actually a really cool guy. Come on, disappearing men don’t happen every day! Or...do they? Hm...food for thought.
Twins: What happened to the blond guy Raven liked?
Wren: He’s on a different show now.
Twins: Oh...

Octavia and Bellamy have a bonding moment. Where they are totally adorable and brother and sister-y. So cute.
Wren: Since I don’t have a sibling, this is adorable. SO ADORABLE. -rolls around in sparkles- We all want Bellamy as an older brother.
Twins: -wink wink-
Wren: -facepalms-

Yet again, Octavia proves her worth. She can ride horses and fight. Like...seriously fight.
Twins: She doesn’t need no man!
Wren: -facepalms- ‘Doesn’t need no man’? GRAMMAR. -glomps- But really. She doesn’t need anyone. Not even Lincoln. She just allows him to tag along.
Twins: But she needs him! She likes him!
Wren: Shush. She’s an independent woman.

And Marcus Kane comes in and throws down the Button Game. Because we all want to be branded. Yeah, right.
Wren: It’s like...you don’t know where that brand has been, bro. No way. Ain’t letting that go near my arm. Nuh-uh. Also, Abby is smart for letting Marcus take it. Even if that kinda means she’s submitting to his power. Hahaha…
Twins: I'm just glad Thelonious does NOT HAVE control over people...yet…I think Thelonious is up to something pretty bad, I think that AI girl is going to convince him to destroy the living world. Why? Because Thelonious hasn't recovered from his lack of oxygen way back then. The isolation has gone to his head, has forever altered the Once good guy. TO THINK I USED TO LIKE HIM.

The Ice Prince (haha) is introduced. And he’s not anything special. Because ew.
Twins: IF THAT ICE PRINCE GUY IS A LOVE INTEREST FOR CLARKE, I feel like he's too old for her. Maybe that's just me xP
Wren: He’s too ick for me. No way. Plus, he’s having too much fun at the summit. Is he on ‘shrooms?

And in comes the assassin! Because all shows need assassins who massacre everyone. Because massacreing is fun.
Wren: And who the frig is that dude? He’s going all Assassin’s Creed on his victims.
Twins: They're all lucky they know how to fight hand to hand combat. Where did that bomb come from? I thought they were trying to save Lincoln's buddy…
Wren: Where else do bombs come from? ;)

At the end of the episode, we (finally) meet Queen Elsa-I mean the Ice Queen!
Twins: She doesn’t look like Elsa...

And the twins wonder about something that’s obviously on everyone’s mind.
Twins: Will Peace ever last OR can't they ever be friends? No?...no?
Wren: If they had peace, there wouldn’t be a plot. Heh heh

The twins wonder if this season has too many plot holes.
Twins: I feel like I'm missing something. What happened to Lincoln's friend? Didn't they go mount weather to save him? He died. Where's this bomb come from? It’s a self destruct. And Mt Weather has missiles too. Not sure why they had a self destruct, though. When did the people get in Mt weather (maybe because we missed episode 1) Uh...no clue. ANNNNND when did Bellamy get out of his disguise?
Wren: You ask too much.

Setting:

Twins: I love how the world looks, it's so well done for an apocalyptic? World :) *bravo* I'd love to see how they do it, seriously it's cool! So pretty 💖💖💖

Twins: But even though it's in nature, there isn't a lot of animals, mutated or not.
Wren: You just missed all the animals. Need I remind you of the two-headed deer?

Twins: love their outfits, I'm jelly. How do they have so much time to change every day?
Wren: It’s called rip-away clothing. Strippers use it. Teehee.

Wren: The clans are a totally cool idea. But I wants mooorreee. What are the other clans? How do they communicate with each other? Are they more like nations or clans? How big are the clans? I WANTS TO KNOOWWW.

I Won't Hide The Truth About My Feelings For 'Truthwitch'

Truthwitch

Author: Susan Dennard
On a continent ruled by three empires, some are born with a “witchery”, a magical skill that sets them apart from others.
In the Witchlands, there are almost as many types of magic as there are ways to get in trouble—as two desperate young women know all too well.

Safiya is a Truthwitch, able to discern truth from lie. It’s a powerful magic that many would kill to have on their side, especially amongst the nobility to which Safi was born. So Safi must keep her gift hidden, lest she be used as a pawn in the struggle between empires.

Iseult, a Threadwitch, can see the invisible ties that bind and entangle the lives around her—but she cannot see the bonds that touch her own heart. Her unlikely friendship with Safi has taken her from life as an outcast into one of reckless adventure, where she is a cool, wary balance to Safi’s hotheaded impulsiveness.

Safi and Iseult just want to be free to live their own lives, but war is coming to the Witchlands. With the help of the cunning Prince Merik (a Windwitch and ship’s captain) and the hindrance of a Bloodwitch bent on revenge, the friends must fight emperors, princes, and mercenaries alike, who will stop at nothing to get their hands on a Truthwitch.

LIKED:

  • Safi's character was pretty interesting, but I wanted more. There was a part that showed her true emotions. Her insecurities. I loved that. I wanted more of that. I am always interested in characters that are unsure of their place in the world and have to figure that out. Safi's brashness was a bit of a turn-off for me, because she was acting so rude. And she has motivations to do that. But we didn't learn a lot about her thoughts and motivations.
  • The world was exciting. There was magic and trade agreements and war. I was extremely excited about the war actually. What happened? How did it start? Why twenty years of peace? Sadly, I didn't get answers to these questions. But the world has potential to be expanded upon. There were many kingdoms where many things could happen. Of course, the key word is could. The potential is good enough for now.
  • The friendships pulled me right in. I always love friendship stories. And this book's friendship was no exception. Safi and Iseult would do anything for each other. I want a friendship like that. Who am I kidding? I have a friendship like that. I would do anything for my best friend Jenna. She's my Threadsister. We'd do anything for each other. That's how close we are. This friendship in the book reminded me of my friendship. Made me feel a little homesick. But in the good way.

Disliked:

  • The romance was unbelievable. They barely knew each other. And why did you like each other? Angriness? (Also. I didn't like how almost all the characters introduced had 'rage in their hearts'. I'm an angry person, but I highly doubt everyone wants to rip things apart to the point of death. Because anger issues? Haha. No.) These two fought. A lot. I don't care what you say about opposites attracting or that thing the people do when they like each other. They would seriously rip each other apart. And we didn't find much deeper meaning to either of them. Merik at least had motivation. Safi was just cruising along. Seriously, why was she going along with this plot? No one told her to. Geez.
  • Lack of info kept me struggling. I felt like I was missing something, maybe a first book. The world wasn't built that well. I had questions about the world. Mostly questions based on the war. Why? Who? When? What? Basic questions I had but weren't answered.
  • There were so many types of witches and so many types of magic. I needed a map or a chart to keep track of everything. It was too much to swallow. I needed something simple. Maybe the elemental magics would be together and then aether and void together. We didn't get any information about what aether and void are. I wanted to know, but I didn't get any answers.

The First Rule of Fanboy Club: Don't Tell Anyone About Fanboy Club

Wednesday, February 3, 2016
Every tomato, your leader is now a part of the Fanboy Book Club. If you'd like to join me in fangirling over boys in books, please join here.

"Tell us a little bit about yourself."
I'm the Wrenmato. I like books. Obviously. I like anime and manga. And jackets. And dessert. And Welcome to Night Vale. I'm not sure what else to say...
"How did you come up with your blog name?"
Fun part: I like tomatoes. I forgot who offered up The Bookmato Chronicles. But it was a great idea. So I stuck with it.
"Who is your favorite male character?"
VICTOR VALE. -rolls around in giddiness- He's so cool. Just...AAHH.
I regard Kaz Brekker highly too. He's smart and clever. The person I want to be. Smart and sly and cunning.
WAIT. Can I say anime characters too?? If yes, Hetalia's Romano and Russia and Yato and Yukine from Noragami. Romano and Russia are all scary-ish but have warm hearts. Plus, you doesn't like the Italians? (Romano!) And Yato is all funny but also hides his inner demons. And Yukine...Noragami season one is all about his troubles.
"I'm giving you the freedom here. Who are your book husbands/book boyfriends?"
None. Okay. High School! Victor Vale is my secret love. He's wonderful. And too old in the book originally. So he has to be in an AU.
"Book with a male lead that really stuck to your heart?"
Gonna lean to anime again. Sorry. I'm a huge anime fan. This would be Yukine. Just what's in his heart and what he has gone through and what emotions he has. His episodes made me cry. So amazing.
But book wise...none. I don't really feel for any special male lead. Books play my heartstrings, but I don't feel for any male leads. Sorry.

Rogues Read Books Too: Introduction to the Port of Contempt

Tuesday, February 2, 2016

Now, I'll be introducing the characters for Port of Contempt (Contemporary.)
And if you weren't here for the last character reveal, I'll remind you!

And what is the setting of this game of D&D? Glad you asked!
The lands of Bookia is under attack! The Genres (the rulers of their respective domains) have summoned the best of the best to fight the evil rival empire of Technologia whose people are dedicated to eradicating and turning obsolete the wonderful land of Bookia. But as the Genres don't mix well, these fighters are a motley group of healers, warriors, and wizards.

And now...for the main event.
The introduction of the first set of characters! I'll be dividing the team up into genres and introducing them one by one.

RJ from It's a Wonderful Death by Sarah J Schmitt
Note: There isn't a drawing/picture of RJ, so I used a picture of a chibi reaper. RJ does not look like this.

She became a rogue to keep her living. She is notorious for doing whatever she wants. The Port of Contempt authorities caught her drunk in a moment of weakness on the anniversary of her changing. The governor of the city-state took her to become his representative because he knew she would be cutthroat.

Her mother tried to get her into the modelling industry because she was in it, but Willowdean just wanted to escape. She felt cooped up in the Port of Contempt. She fled as soon as she was legally able. She began to be well-known for her songs and her voice. Her voice supposedly carries magical powers to lure people into doing her bidding.

Introducing Pamela from A Writer's Tales

Sunday, January 31, 2016
Guest of the Month Club is hosted by Emily Reads Everything. Go check her out!

Today, I'm introducing Pamela. Give her a warm welcome!

Hi everyone! I'm Pamela, and I blog at A Writer's Tales :) 2015 was a year of awesome books, and like every year, there were a lot I couldn't get to. And 2016 releases or just making my TBR list grow. *sigh* Regardless of the frustration, there is a lot of excitement as well! BECAUSE BOOKS! These are 5 books I can't to read this year.

Shadow Study, by Maria V. Snyder

It came out last year, and I can't properly express how surprised I was that the author was resuming the Study series. I met Yelena and Valek, two awesome, kickass characters  back in 2013, when I read the first three books. Then, just because I couldn't stop thinking about the just, amazing world-building, I continued with the spin-off series. And now I get to see Yelena and Valek again! I've been told it's really good, so I really can't wait!

Soldier, by Julie Kagawa

:3 There are DRAGONS, do we really need another explanation?

Their Fractured Light, by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner

Beautiful cover. Check. Awesome authors. Check. Awesome Premise. Check. No-brainer for me as well after having read the two previous books. These two ladies are in my will-read-anything-they-write list.

Air Awakens, by Elise Kova

I've been hearing a lot about thise series and I love how it sounds, and plus, the covers are really beautiful. I know, I have a thing for beautiful covers, but really! For a while drawn characters were replaced by the girl's face with strange expression trope in YA books, and from time time it's good to see a different kind of design :)

Cinder, by Marissa Meyer

I always talk about how much I've been wanting to start the Lunar Chronicles. You'll be pleased to know that I finally got the first book, Cinder, and will be reading it soon! All the hype around Winter, and Stars Above has gotten me in the fairy tale mood so I guess this one will be next after I finish the one I'm currently reading.
