I Do Not Watch Too Much Anime (And Other Lies I Tell Myself)

Tears! The summer anime season is basically over. (I'm only finishing up Mob Psycho 100 and 91 Days to my recollection. It's so sad that it's gone. BUT we have Haikyuu season three coming in. WHOOP WHOOP. It's going to be the BEST anime for fall for me. No doubt about that.
I only was watching ONE anime that's finished. Seasonal anime doesn't really count since it goes on for a few months. BUT since the season's over, I'm gonna link all the animes I watched this summer as well as the one anime I watched during September.

Mob Psycho 100. Wow. This is one of my favorite animes of this season. It's quirky and distinct. There is no action/supernatural anime as amazing as Mob Psycho 100. 5/5
Amanchu. This was such a surprise for me. It's so beautiful. The friendships are amazing, and Teko's character development was spot on. 5/5
Orange. I was kinda disappointed by this anime. It was cute and emotional AT FIRST. But then is seemed to change and become something I didn't particularly like or dislike. So, overall, not a huge fan. But it's emotional beginning really did set the tone. 4/5
Morose Mononokean. I wanted to love this so much. But a lot of things were just lackluster. The character development. The story. I much prefer an overarching arc; episodic is great...but not beneficial to telling a story. Plus, Ashiya could have been expanded more, but he never was given the chance. 3/5
91 Days. As much as I like revenge stories, 91 Days seems to fall flat for me. It doesn't go all out. The art is fine, but the story wasn't pushing itself hard enough. 3/5
New Game. This was cute. And that's really all. The story wasn't there. And the characters were following overused stereotypes. I liked the cuteness and Ko and Rin's relationship, but nothing was expanded. 3/5
Kono Bijutsubu ni wa Mondai ga Aru. At first, KonoBi's strange episodic nature turned me off. But then I realized I was rooting for Usami to get with Uchimaki. I was led on by this show, hoping for this to happen. And, no spoilers, but it wasn't the best ending. JUST GIVE THE FANS WHAT THEY WANT. 3/5
Re:Zero. AHHHHHHH. I love this show. It takes these morally gray characters and makes them likable. The animation is fabulous. Both OPs are to DIE for. And Subaru is so sweet and brave. Just ahhhhhh. And REM. BEST GIRL. 5/5
Neon Genesis Evangelion. I haven't really watched much of this. Because school. I'll try to watch more during October. Hopefully... So no rating yet!

Eternal Book Devourer

I've read EIGHT books this month. That is very...normal. I typically read 8 books a month. So not weird at all...

Steelheart. Dude. This was very action-y. I loved that. It was this pulse-pounding action book. With superheroes. Or supervillains? I'm not sure on that. But AMAZING. 4/5

Stalking Jack the Ripper. Jack the Ripper's always an interesting case. But this book really showed that. I didn't like the characters as much, but the mystery was pretty good. 4/5 Check out my review here!

The Thousandth Floor. Wow. Rich, horny teenagers much? That's all I can say. Because...I was so disappointed. This is a book where you can't judge it by its cover. 2/5
Firefight. After the amazingness of Steelheart, I kinda was disappointed by its sequel. It wasn't as action-y. And the romance thing kept forcing its way into the story. And...no, bro. No way. Not too bad. But not the best. And I'm not reading Calamity. NOPE. 3/5
The Geek's Guide to Unrequited Love. Wow. I feel attacked. As an otaku (anime fan), I feel mildly attacked. The MC kept talking about otakus as if it's like "WOW. Candy-colored hair. Not as cool as comics." I feel attacked. And I'm not sure if the NYCC setting was right. But...meh? 2/5
Vassa in the Night. Dude. This was one whimsical book. I don't know the original myth. But it was very magical. A good read. BUT check out a more in-depth book on Teen Reads. Later. Sometime. 4/5
The Rift Uprising. AGH NO. This was such a strange book. It didn't seem right. The Blood Lust? NOPE. The 2016 dystopia? NOPE. The everything? NOPE. 1/5
A Study in Charlotte. I really wasn't shocked about this book. It was fine. Nothing special. I'd have preferred if Charlotte was the MC, but Jamie works. I guess? 3/5

I participated in a blog tour for Phantom Limbs. It is a very interesting book. VERY interesting. Check it out here.
I also reviewed Stalking Jack the Ripper. But that's above.
And I reviewed A Court of Mist and Fury. Which is -fans self- Check it out here.
For BBCP, my team did another aesthetic. Mine is for Illuminae! Check it out here.
And the only anime post I had this month was a review. For Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Check that out here.

  • Ah, school. You hate me so. I had an APUSH test that I ROCKEDD. Yess. And I did pretty well on both Psych tests. But one was basically statistics, and I'm in AP Stats. So...no brainer there. But APUSH isn't too bad. It just depends on how much you like history and how hard you're going to push yourself.
  • The first issue of my school paper is coming out soon! I haven't written a thing, but I've done photos and page designs. Only the latter is going in print, though. Or is it? I'm not sure. I don't think any of my photos are in this print this issue. But yeah! I did 5 pages this issue. I've only do maybe 3 at most. But it wasn't bad. I did 2 pages in one day, though.
  • I'm taking up photography? Whaaa. It's true. I'm doing photos now for the paper as well. I like it. It's calming to see things through the lens. Plus, photos from a newbie like me turn out FABULOUS with the Nikon. Even though I might be trying for some artsy that doesn't work. Plus, my cutlines aren't too bad.
  • I also went to a carnival with friends. I went on some spinning rides. And then I attended my first football game at my school. I've only gone to one before that. So it was interesting...

  • I met Sasha Alsberg and Lindsay Cummings for the first time! I was at a Half Price Books event for the two of them. Plus, I met with some awesome friends from NTTBF 2016! Liv. Lizzie. Whitney. Caitlin And some of Liv's friends.
  • There was a Japanese festival! And I got goldfish. You know that goldfish scooping game? Yeah, I got three goldfish from that. I haven't named them yet. But I might call them all Harold in honor of my dead fish from my other goldfish scooping conquest back in April.
What did you do this September? What did you think of the summer anime? Are you going to Homecoming? Tell me in the comments!

I Do Not Watch Too Much Anime (And Other Lies I Tell Myself)

I started and finished two animes this month! (Excluding all the airing animes I'm watching.)
Kamisama Kiss. Huh. I'm surprised by this. It's cute. The romance is cute. The plot is fine (Not the  best.) And Nanami is AWESOME. 3/5 (PS: Check out my review here.)
Puella Magi Madoka Magica. This was a moving anime. It was sad. And happy. And meaningful. I'm surprised. I liked this more than I thought I would. 5/5

I'm watching WAY MORE than these two. 9 airing anime in total. But these are the finished animes I've finished. (Wow. Sounds great, Wren.)

And because of school, I haven't finished the third anime I started. Which is Kill la Kill. But I still have some way to go!

Eternal Book Devourer

For once, I read! Haha! I have NO TIME anymore for anything. Except on the bus. So I read on the bus. (I gotta be in WiFi to watch anime.) Might try to pick up anime over the weekends, but it's tough when you constantly have assignments. OH WELLS.
But I finished a WHOPPING NINE BOOKS this month.

Also, ignore my ugly carpet.
This Ordinary Life. (Thanks, Brianna from Otaku Twins for giving me this as part of my birthday present! And, in case you're wondering, my birthday was back in April.) This was an interesting book. A quick read definitely. I didn't love it or hate it. It was interesting to see the family dynamic, but that was drowned out by the romance. 3/5
Tell Me Something Real. (An eARC for a book tour!) This was a different book. It had an interesting family dynamic, much like This Ordinary Life, but the story was more riveting and tense. Still, the romance was annoying. 3/5 (PS: Check out my review of it HERE!)
Phantom Limbs. (An eARC for a book tour!) The story of loss always seems to hit my feels. Hard. This book does make me feel for Otis. But still. 3/5

The Girl Who Fell. Abuse is rough. Books typically don't show abusive relationships. But this one did. And it hurt my heart. But...I still couldn't fall in love with it. 3/5 (PS: Check my review out HERE!)

Let's Get Lost. Wow. I'm surprised by this book. It's pretty freaking amazing. It's cute and funny and meaningful. Not the best book. But pretty amazing nonetheless. 4/5 (PS: I totally took a lot of photos of this book when I was on a plane to FL and one the way back. Also, I was in first class. With the food photos to prove it.)

My Lady Jane. Wow. I liked this one. It's strange...but I do. It's cute and funny and witty. Plus, it's creative. Definitely a new take on the historical fiction genre. 4/5 (PS: Check out my review here!)
The Cruelty. I really had to suspend my disbelief about this book. It's action-filled and pretty cool. But the book wouldn't happen if Gwendolyn wasn't STUPID. 3/5 (Review to come)

Ask the Passengers. This is a cute book. But, per usual, with AS King books, I couldn't really get into it. It's strange. The story was hard to believe. And this is a contemporary book? I'm confused. 3/5

A Court of Mist and Fury. Unlike most people, I'm not a fan of this book. Or ACOTAR. The romance was fine, but I expected much more. Hype at its best. 3/5 (PS: Review to come!)

I Do Not Watch Too Much Anime (And Other Lies I Tell Myself)

If you can watch TOO MUCH anime, I think I've hit that. This was the month where I officially started watching airing anime full-time. Not a few like last season. But a lot more.

I finished Tokyo Ghoul Root A. It was a pretty good anime. Not the best honestly. But not bad either. I missed seeing Kaneki and his side of the story, though, 3/5. Review here!
I also finished ReLIFE. This was an anime about a guy who is jobless who partakes in an experiment to make him look like a teen. It was very interesting? I didn't love it or hate it. 3/5 Review (on MAL) here!

I started a whole bunch of anime, though. Let's start with the ones I'm most hopeful for.
91 Days. This is such an amazing anime. It's about revenge, but the characters are great too.
Orange. I LOVE THIS. It's so sweet and emotional. Not along the lines of, say, Your Lie in April. But the feellsss. It's about a girl who gets a letter from her future self. And she has to save a certain someone...or, at least, put her regrets to rest.
Morose Mononokean. I know a LOT of people say this is only so-so. But I love it. It's so cute. And I don't mind looking at Abeno-san. He's good looking. And Fuzzball just makes my heart flutter. This anime is my Sweetness and Lightning.

The following animes are pretty good. I like them. But they're not my favorites.
Amanchu People say this will be one of the best animes of the summer. I feel a little reluctant to say that. I've now gotten over Pikari's mild annoyingness and am enjoying the sweet moments between Teko and Pikari. But scuba diving animes have to show the sea. Or I'm out.
Kono Bijutsubu ni Wa Mondai ga Aru!. I was so excited for this one. But it's episodic plot almost made me drop it. The art club is weird. But I'm sticking for the possible romance right now. That's all.
Mob Psycho 100. People were so excited for this too. Me? I came along for the ride. But I'm not so impressed. The art style is definitely unique and something I'd stay for. But the episodic nature is a major turn-off. It seems like there are two storylines in one episode. Which is confusing for me.
New Game. This is such a cute anime. It's all about moe girls doing video game stuff. I came for the female in animation job thing but stayed for the cuteness. I honestly might drop it if the plot doesn't pick up soon.
Bananya. This is just a cute anime. I watch it to blow off steam. Nothing more.

And these I dropped/put on hold.
Battery. I put this on hold. Takumi was such a whiner. His rudeness to literally everyone was a major turn-off for me. I couldn't stand him. Kageyama Tobio is one thing. Takumi Harada is another.
Hatsukoi Monster. This is just so gross. I felt so disgusted watching it. It's so juvenile. It has dick jokes. Not to mention the guy REALLY IS IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. That's just wrong...no no no. Held back is one thing. That freaking tall and bishie in fifth grade is another. No. Just no.

And in case you're wondering, no, I'm not going to watch Berserk or Food Wars season two or anything. I'm not interested. Plus, I haven't seen Food Wars season one. >-<

Eternal Book Devourer

Per usual, I read barely any books this month. Am I surprised? NOPE. But I might get back into the swing of things...

I read only THREE books. (I finished the last one on the last days of July.)

Spells and Sorcery by S Usher Evans. This wasn't a bad book. It's about a girl finding out she has magical powers. Which isn't new to the YA genre. But the magical history aspect was interesting and unique. That I did like. Even if Lexie was a little brat. I got this as an eARC from the publisher. 3/5
History Is All You Left  Me by Adam Silvera. This is about two guys who lost their love Theo. Yes, they shared a love but not in the way that you think. But Theo is dead now. And Griffin and Jackson have to live with that. This was the book I was most excited for. But I never knew it'd be this amazing. The relationship is so beautiful. The characters are so well-written. I can't believe I got a chance to read this. I got this as an ARC from BFest. 5/5
Phantom Limbs by Paula Garner. This book is about a guy who is a swimmer whose coach is an amputee...and whose first love is coming home (For some time.) It's an interesting story about pain and acceptance. But the overwhelming horniness of Otis and the huge emphasis on the romance with Meg was less than desirable. I would have preferred an emotional story between Otis and Dara with Meg cheering him on. But I do understand her (The author) perspective. 3/5

Friday, July 1, 2016
Ah, June. The start of summer vacation and the anime binge-a-thons. I'm so happy to have time to write posts! Finally! I'll have a lot of posts for July.
But...onto the important stuff.

Eternal Book Devourer

I was in a bad, bad reading slump this month. I read only THREE books.
This is My Brain on Boys by Sarah Strohmeyer. I didn't really like this book. It was quirky? And really...different. But not a favorite. 3/5
If I Was Your Girl by Meredith Russo. This was an interesting LGBT+ book. (Which was pretty good for June which is Pride Month.) But I didn't really like it... 3/5

This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab. I didn't like the start of this book. But it wasn't too bad overall. Pretty good. REVIEW TO COME. 4.5/5

I participated in The Crown's Game readalong, and I wrote a review for it!

I started the switch to anime posts. So I have basically no new bookish posts. I might find a coblogger who does book posts. To get the Lit in Litaku covered.

I did THREE episode analyses for anime.
Episode 9 of the spring 2016 anime Kiznaiver (Which I spelled wrong for the longest time...and is about friendship and troubled romance)

And I reviewed the anime Fate/Stay Night. And wondered...why?

I Do Not Watch Too Much Anime (And Other Lies I Tell Myself)

I watched/finished NINE animes this month. Woot woot! (Guess how many that'll be back when school starts.)
The spring season is ending with Kiznaiver, Bungou Stray Dogs, and Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress coming to a close. As I write this, I've seen the last episode of Bungou but not Kiznaiver. SOON! And Kabaneri has one last episode. So far.

I watched:
  • Fate/Stay Night. I felt like this was overrated...so. 3/5
  • Magi: Labyrinth of Magic. This was sooo good. I loved the magic and the friendship. Team Ugo forever. 5/5

  • Your Lie in April. This anime was one of the saddest I've seen. It's soooo sad. But it's gorgeous. Especially if you love music. 5/5
  • Baccano. I felt like this too was overrated. I didn't really like it. It had a confusing story line, and I just couldn't keep up with the massive cast. 2.5/5
  • Toradora. Most people love this anime. But I didn't? The love dodechedron was annoying. I hate thingsl like that. 2.5/5
And all the spring 2016/airing anime:
  • Space Patrol Luluco. This was a cute and short anime. Reminisicnet of Hetalia... 3/5
  • Kiznaiver. At first, I didn't like this anime. But it got better. It got sad and romance-y. But it was done really well. I haven't seen the last episode. So no rating. Yet.
  • Bungou Stray Dogs. Agh. I can't believe this is over. It's an interesting anime with a plot twist at the end. Aka we need season two now. 4/5
  • Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress. This is interesting. People say it's an AOT copy...which isn't true really. Sorta. Kinda. Maybe. But it's cool. And Ikoma is cool. It's cool. Plus, the OP is awesome. It's by the same group that did the Guilty Crown OST. So...I'm in love. I haven't finished it yet. So no rating!
And let's do something new!
Which anime do I recommend?

RECOMMENDATIONS
  • Fantasy: Magi: Labyrinth of Magic. This anime has awesome magic. It's about Alibaba and Aladdin who are complete strangers but form a connection. I love that. The two of them go through a lot. The animation is pretty awesome, and I love all the characters.
  • Slice of life/shoujo: Your Lie in April. It's a sweet anime about love and first love. And about hurt and loss. And overcoming your fears. And, of course, music. Kousei's story is empowering and wonderful. I truly love it. Be warned that you might cry. A lot.
  • Supernatural: Bungou Stray Dogs. This anime is good. I admit it. The animation is awesome. The OP is even better. You have Atsushi, a seemingly innocent boy, who joins a group of gifted people who solve crimes. But there's a sinister organization to defeat. And interesting powers.

Overall: Magi: Labyrinth of Magic. Just beautiful awesomeness. Why didn't I watch this sooner?

Daily Lives of High School Peoples (aka Wren)

  • I helped out with a summer camp. And the kids dunked me with water. FUN.
  • I got a whole bunch of book mail. Which I love! Check out my unboxing here.
  • I started this weight loss program. Which I don't like. Sorta. I don't eat breakfast. wich I don't do anyways. Yay for waking up late!
  • I got Nishinoya. The Nendoroid I mean. He's sooo cute. He's sitting next to me right now.

  • I went to BFest. And I got ARCs and samplers. (Including History is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera. WHO IS SUPER COOL.) I might do a booksfortrade soon. Maybe. And I saw Nicola Yoon! Eek!

What did you do this month? Enjoying summer break? What summer anime are you looking forward to?

Woohoo! It's May. Which means school is ending! In A FEW DAYS. -shrieks- I can't wait for June! And summer! And drawing and all. It'll be amazing.

Eternal Book Devourer

I am in another reading slump! Sigh. Which sucks because I was going to read one of my favorite author's new book. Stupid anime has taken over my life...

Saving Montgomery Sole. This book was odd. I wanted to like it. But I didn't. The characters weren't interesting, and the plot was lackluster. 1/5
The Coldest Girl in Coldtown. People say this book is amazing. Classic really. But I didn't really enjoy it. The premise was interesting. But I wasn't as excited as I read it. The hype was too much. 2/5
The Star Touched Queen. This book had gorgeous descriptions. The romance was pretty interesting, and it was pretty hot too. The plot was lacking, though, and so were the characters.  3/5
The Crown's Game. I read this for the readalong hosted by Brittany from Brittany's Book Rambles. It wasn't bad. The magic felt limitless and godmodded. The romance was pretty good, though. The characters not so much. 3/5
This Savage Song. I started this book. But I couldn't seem to get into it. I'm still trying to read it. It feels like the world is interesting, but I'm highly confused by it. What is what? Who is who? I'm a bit lost. But the characters have promise.

I Do Not Watch Too Much Anime (And Other Lies I Tell Myself)

I watched way too much anime. Again.
I finished Haikyuu Season 2. And it was gorgeous. I love Haikyuu so much. REVIEW TO COME. 5/5
I watched only THREE episodes of One Piece. I really only watched it during class when I didn't want to watch a lot of YouTube. And I'm not rating it. Yet.
I finished Wandering Son. Which is an anime about transgender middle schoolers. Which didn't meet my standards.. :( 2/5
I ADORED Hyouka. It's this masterful piece of art. I love the characters and story and literally everything about it. 5/5
I began the spring 2016 anime Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress. It's pretty cool? I guess? Haha. And it's still airing...so no rating!

Daily Lives of High School Peoples (aka Wren)

  • I went to see Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. Which was so much fun. I didn't win the Gemina ARC, though. :(
  • AP exams happened. And I did two! But I rocked it. I think. Haha...haha...
  • I went to a small, local anime/comic book convention. Which wasn't too bad. I got an anime DVD. Which was cool!
  • I didn't get an editor position. But I'll try again next year! (I'm doing pages/graphics next year!)
  • I got an Akibento! A monthly subscription box about anime stuff. And I made a video about it
  • I got exempt from exams. Which is amazing. I'm so happy. I don't have to take any exams! At all.

Eternal Book Devourer

Okay! I read...drum roll...NINE books. I am officially out of my reading slump! WOOHOO!

But none of the books I read really wowed me. Oh well. There's always next month!
And I tried to do more photos...but failed. Again.

Wink Poppy Midnight: This book was strange. I didn't particularly understand it...but I don't understand many of these artsy books. So...3.5.
Genius: The Game: This was actually a super cool book. I didn't realize it at first. But it's amazing! I loved the tension and the characters. A definite 4. PS: I got this as an eARC for Nori's SST!

The Way I Used to Be: Uh...I didn't really like this book. I got annoyed at the MC. She really made me mad. 3.

Kill the Boy Band: I didn't know what to think. This book is why fangirls get bad rep. And I hated it because of that. 3. PS: I got this from the Guardian's children book review site!
The Abyss Surrounds Us: Many people praise this book for its LGBT representation. But I got annoyed at the romance (as I usually do.) While the main character was...okay, I felt like thee could have been way more. The premise had promise ,but it didn't live up to my expectations. 3.
Air Awakens: I was waiting excitedly for this book, but I felt a little let down. There wasn't a whole lot of magic. Sure, Vhalla and Aldrik's relationship is pretty awesome, but I wanted more from Vhalla. Even though I adored Baldair and Aldrik. Cute boys can't make up for a boring MC. 3.
Venemous Kiss/Belladonna: I didn't read the first book...but I could understand the second book pretty well. I didn't mind it, actually. There were too many supernatural elements for (what seemed to be) a historical fiction. And the MC annoyed me. But the tension is GREAT. 3. PS: I read this for Paper Lantern Lit!
Hour of Mischief: Hm...steampunk...with gods...wha? I'm super confused. The MC and her love interest are  AWESOME. I'd love to meet them. But the mythology and the world are confusing. I'm left bewildered. 3. PS: I got this from my school's book club!
A Fierce and Subtle Poison: What do you even say with this book? Sure, I did read it massive reading binges. But still! It made no sense. I was reading a lot of babbling. 2.

I Do Not Watch Too Much Anime (And Other Lies I Tell Myself)

I watch too much anime. Always.
This month wasn't too bad... I think.

Durarara x2 Shou: I hate that this series is divided into three parts. Which sucks. But I do love the story. And I miss these characters. 4.
One Punch Man: Why did I wait to watch this? It's amazing! I love the humor. And Saitama is so sweet. 4.5.
Joker Game: I just started watching this. Weekly. It's weird. I don't really like it. But I won't rate it yet.
Haikyuu: I watched this for Get You Into Haikyuu. And loved it. It's amazing. I loved Asahi and Nishinoya. And the teamwork...and the second half of the plot. 5.
Bungou Stray Dogs: I watched this weekly too. It's weird. But Dazai is AWESOME. He's so smart. I admire that. Atushi is super boring, though. And I won't rate this either.
RWBY Season 3 (3 episodes): This show is insane. And that ending left me with all the feels! I can't wait for the next season (?)

Daily Lives of High School Peoples (aka Wren)

  • I went to Nort Texas Teen Book Festival. And met a lot of people! And I did a recap.
  • And I met Adam Silvera. He's very tall... (I also got an interview with him. I wrote an article for my school paper.)
  • I also made a YouTube channel. Which I won't post a lot on.
  • I began craming for my AP exams. (Calc AB and WHAP, in case you're wondering.)
  • My birthday happened too. And I went to a Japanese festival. And won a goldfish which I named Harold. (Then he died...)
  • I got my first Akibento! Which was a bit disappointing.
  • Editor applications for my school newspaper started! I hope to be the page editor or entertainment editor.
  • And, if we're still talking about my school paper, we began the May issue's pages. WHICH IS FREAKING ME OUT.
  • I started a new writing project with people at my writing club. It's gonna be INSANE.
